Homemade Caramel Sauce
I have been obsessed with dipping and drizzling caramel on all the things lately! And while it’s been a hot minute since I last made some in school, it’s far too easy (and cheaper) to not be making it at home.
What you’ll need:
– 1 cup white sugar
– 1/2 cup milk, room temperature or warmer
– 6 Tablespoons butter
– 1/2 teaspoon salt
– 1 Tablespoon vanilla
What you’ll do:
– Add your sugar to a sauce pan and heat over medium high heat, stirring until the sugar has fully dissolved. Stop stirring and bring to a boil until golden brown in color. If any sugar is on the sides of the pan, use a pastry brush dipped in water brush away the sugar. You can swirl the pan if you like, but refrain from stirring as you run the risk of causing it to crystalize.
– Once the sugar is golden brown, lower the temperature to medium and whisk in warm milk.
– Whisk in the butter a few tablespoons at a time, continuing to whisk until the butter has been fully incorporated. – – – – Remove from heat and whisk in the salt and vanilla.
– Allow the caramel to cool and transfer to a glass jar.
– ENJOY by pouring over pie or ice cream, dipping in fruit, or just by the spoonful!
